This short walk follows Drift Creek as it flows around the outside of
the camp boundary. The trail begins next to Sitka/Bathhouse (D). Keep
an eye out on the right side of the trail for the nurse-log, a fallen
tree with other living trees growing on the decaying trunk. After the
swimming hole the trail will continue through the woods past the last
three cabins in the loop and end at the campfire circle (G).
2.
The Narrows
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 0.5 mile
Time: 30 minutes
This trail begins at the east
end of the lodge (A). Look for the sign “Amphitheater, Narrows,
Inspiration Point.” Walk up the trail to the top of the small ridge
where there is a bench. If you are hiking in late summer enjoy the
huckleberries along this part of the trail. At the bench stay to the
right and continue along into the Narrows. You will see the creek on
both sides of the trail. Return on the same trail.
3. Ridge to Bridge
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 0.75 mile
Time: 40 minutes
This trail begins at the same trailhead as the Narrows trail (2). From
the trailhead hike up to the top of the small ridge to a bench. At the
bench continue on the trail to the left that follows the ridge line.
Look for different species of conifers along the trail (hemlock,
spruce, fir, and cedar). Watch your footing on the steep downhill
steps as the trail descends to the camp road. You may return to the
camp either along the entrance road (to the left) or back the way you
came on the trail.
